Who's That Guy?
Male model of the moment: Mathias Lauridsen

Few girls can resist a guy in a tunic. When a downy blonde hunk hit the runway during September’s Anna Sui show, eyes popped, jaws dropped, and women throughout Bryant Park were seen swooning in their stilettos.

Enter Mathias Lauridsen, a 20-year old Copenhagen native in demand with women and designers alike. After scoring his first feature campaign with Christian Dior last season, Mathias booked an Hermes campaign shot by Richard Avedon shortly before his death. Then photographer David Sims cast him in both Calvin Klein and Jil Sander print campaigns this winter, leaving The Daily to wonder if someone’s got a little camera crush?

Mathias will undoubtedly be feeding hungry eyes all through spring: he’s the new Tommy boy in a Hilfiger campaign with Pamela Hansen and you’ll see him in the Hugo by Hugo Boss campaign, a V Magazine shoot with Peter Lindbergh, and a coveted spread in L’Uomo Vogue.

As for his upcoming tent time, we’re betting Mathias will be setting hearts aflutter again come February. Last Fashion Week, he walked in 10 shows including Marc Jacobs, Perry Ellis, DKNY, Lacoste, Morgan D'Alessandro, Imitation of Christ, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Cloak and Matthew Earnest. This time, we’re sure he’ll be walking again—hopefully, straight for us!

Jill Stuart - Runway Review

Jill Stuart's show began with a surprise: Danish male model Mathias Lauridsen. Yes, Stuart has launched a menswear line (named Stuart Curtis because it was created in conjunction with her husband, Ron Curtis). That wasn't the only trick the designer had up her sleeve in this collection. The women's clothes were built around corsetry, and while lingerie is a recurring theme for Stuart, this time around boning and structure replaced satiny, starlet-style pieces.

This was a move in the right direction, as it took the designer away from her overfamiliar vintage vibe (even if it's difficult to picture some of these sheer ensembles working outside of the bedroom). She also made good (though rather too much) use of the trapeze shape. Of particular note were a black lace number and a swingy pleated ivory lace look with a V-back and bows at the shoulders.

Russian Dolls

Girls, boys, Dentyne Ice, and Jeanne Beker's spiked heel.

I honestly don't know how these young models do it. I've done a fraction of the shows these girls have and my stomach is cramping from all the espresso and Red Bull and I've been to the acupuncturist twice to help with the constant pain in my lower back. Today three lovelies I've been shooting all week are starting to look like fashion roadkill. One has bronchitis and the other two I couldn't figure out what their problem was because I don't speak Russian. What troopers they are though. You see them show after show being pulled at and plucked and coiffed, and seconds before the show starts BAM!! They turn it on.

Marc by Marc was amazing. The clothes were beautiful and I couldn't help but feel like I'd been lifted to another era with the styling, hair, and makeup. Oh and I finally got my photographic groove on. And I have to be honest, I think I may have rushed to judgment as far as the other backstage photographers are concerned. Turns out I just happened to encounter the two rotten apples in the whole bunch and I haven't seen them since anyways. As of late I'm having a blast with all of them, and not only do I enjoy watching them work but I actually have come to respect what they do.

And thank you Marc for all the cute boys. WOW! So many: Mathias, Joshua, Stas, and this new kid from Ford I'm obsessed with named Mael. Oh yeah, and of course, the girls. Three days of shows and a thousand frames later I finally realized they're all from Russia...HELLO!! Hearing a chic accent here and there is expected where high fashion models are concerned, but it wasn't until I heard a male model speaking that I thought: "Is everyone here Russian?" So that's it huh? I guess the trend this season is Russian girls? Leave it to me to be the last one to figure it out. JD Ferguson
